Quand le chasseur rentre avec des champignons, on ne lui demande pas des nouvelles de sa chasse is from a series of paintings inspired by historical portrayals of hunting scenes. In his pictorial work, Nicolas Ranellucci questions the narration and temporality of the fairy tale. In this manner, each stratum of his painting, which constitutes a precise moment of the mythical hunting tale, captures and immobilizes playful and preposterous elements. The artist juxtaposes the remnants of an unforeseeable course in a mise-en-scène provoking the emergence of their impossible simultaneity.
Born in 1983, Nicolas Ranellucci lives and works in Montreal. He holds a Bachelor’s in Visual and Media Arts and a Certificate in Visual Arts (2007) from UQAM. In 2010, he participated in the group exhibition Nostalgie du présent and the Ego(s) auction at Centre d’exposition Circa. In the same year, he presented his works at the Peinture fraîche et nouvelle construction event at Art Mûr Gallery. He was awarded the Fondation McAbbie grant for excellence in painting within the framework of the Paramètres exhibition at Galerie de l’UQAM. In 2011, he began his association with Galerie Dominique Bouffard, where he participated in the group exhibition Prendre l’air, and where a solo exhibition of his work entitled Mourir pour des miettes will be held in November 2011.
