To mark Vendu–Sold’s 10th anniversary, esse is offering an exclusive print of a work by Jacynthe Carrier, taken from the Pièces montées series commissioned by esse as part of a reflection on art and food. For this series, Carrier staged a performative banquet where each guest was associated with a type of food or plant matter.
The chosen print is a detail from the banquet, in which cut flowers evoke both ornementation and humanity’s stranglehold on nature. Like a conclusion to the genre scene to which we are invited, a girl in a floral print is slumped over the end of the table, her head buried under flowers, her hair entangled in their stems. Isolated from the larger picture, this detail, in which the body and nature intermingle, fully expresses the detachment and abandon invoked by the contemplation of flowers and foliage.
The works from this project are presented in a monograph published by Les éditions esse. On purchase, the photograph will be accompanied by a signed copy of this publication.*
*Following purchase, the work can be retrieved at Éditions esse's office or at the venue of the launch. Esse can also arrange delivery of the work at your expense.
