Text mess age est une enseigne au néon qui, en anglais, s’autodécrit : elle transmet littéralement un message texte, avec une espace en plus qui vient lui donner son sens (« texte–fouillis–âge », soit « l’ère du fouillis textuel »). Mais elle illustre aussi l’usage actuel du texte dans la publicité, les médias sociaux et les autres moyens de communication – un usage complexe, tissé d’énigmes et immersif. Il s’agit d’une œuvre de commande pour l’exposition Do I still cross your mind?, présentée à l’Illingworth Kerr Gallery sous la férule de la commissaire Tatiana Mellema.
Notice biographique
Mark Clintberg is an artist who works in the field of art history; he explores the materiality of text and the public display of subjective feeling. Collections featuring his work include the National Gallery of Canada, the Edmonton Arts Council, and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. His work has recently been shown at The Rooms (St. John’s), Doris McCarthy Gallery (Toronto), Illingworth Kerr Gallery (Calgary), Dunlop Art Gallery (Regina), Western Front (Vancouver), and the Fogo Island Inn. He has upcoming solo projects at Artspace (Toronto), and Truck Gallery (Calgary). In 2013, he was shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award.
