Notice biographique
Annie Tóng Zhòu Lafrance currently lives in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, Canada. She is completing her BFA in Studio Arts combined with a Minor in Chinese Language and Culture. Within her multidisciplinary approach ranging from textile, installation and drawing, she questions the status of Chinese adoptees as framed by post-colonial theory. Born in China and raised in Canada, she personally faces the continuous challenge of (re)defining her cultural self in relation to others. The visual/material language she works with makes space for mindful intercultural exchange. She highlights the intersection of two intertwined identities, precisely by looking at the specific aesthetic qualities found in adoption related topics. A vast array of signifiers resides in the word (be)longing.
