Biographical note
Shanie Tomassini explores the renewable and cyclical experience of objects, places, and ideas. Evoking the notions of durability, handmade, and ecofeminism, she reflects on how the sacred shines through the everyday. In her works, she analyzes the nature of a chosen material and its evolution in space and time. She explores the ramifications of an existential crisis, and her ideas are often crystallized around a form that becomes a motif for poetic emancipation. Tomassini holds a master’s degree in sculpture from the University of Texas in Austin (2019). She has had many solo exhibitions, including at Centre Clark (Montréal), the Umlauf Museum (Austin), and Circa art actuel (Montréal). In 2022, her work was shown at Arsenal Contemporary in New York, Tenerife Espacio de las Artes in Spain, and Artpace, in San Antonio, Texas.
