Fjord II: Rencontres
Peinture acrylique et pastels secs sur canevas monté, 2019
91.44 x 121.92 cm
Fjord II: Rencontres was created during an artistic residency in Ste-Rose-du-Nord in September 2019, as part of the Journées de la Culture. As the ever-changing autumn weather clung to the fjord, the painting evolved with the passing of the village inhabitants encountered along the water's edge. It was these human connections that defined the numerous colors and wove the lines connecting the shores on the canvas. The artwork revealed itself, mirroring this corner of the region: a magnificent backdrop and people bound together by their love for their land, anchored in the landscape.
Biographical note
Roxanne Landry grew up in the Laurentians. The imagery of lakes, mountains, and rivers has nourished her pictorial work. The years spent between Montreal and Saguenay, and then in Quebec City, have inspired the transitional states in her works, caught between two realities. The longing for elsewhere, daydreams, and memories coexist in contemplative, solitary, and mysterious atmospheres.
