The Human Head is Really Heavy

Encre rouge sur papier artisanal de fibres recyclées, 2020

21.59 x 27.94 cm

This new series of drawings is really personal. Using paper that I made myself, I began a diaristic approach to drawing. The aim of this research is to reconnect to the idea of spontaneity within the creative process, and to take a step back from deep conceptual dialectic.

The Human Head is Really Heavy consists of a simple production system, which will gain strength with time and abundance:
a) My pink handmade paper, red ink
b) Images of the daily, thoughts and observations I make regarding the ecosystem I wander in
c) My intuitive drawing style, my handwriting

By implementing a system, I allow my personal feelings to be at the forefront of the work, with the hope that my public will find comfort in relatability. As our Western way of life leaves a lot of us feeling isolated and stranded, I want people to know that they are not alone. In fact, this very idea of isolation as a commonality between us can bring us together to then, in time, inspire action.

Biographical note
My current practice focuses on the exploration of awareness and emotional survival in a context of global violence. My goal in this series, other than reconnecting with the concept of naive artistic practice, is to express myself and spark conversations on topics like mental health, hypersensitivity, social fights, eco-anxiety and more.
