Un bandeau d’or est placé autour d’un rameau, sur un arbre qui croît encore. Comme un anneau se resserrant autour d’un doigt qui enfle lentement, ce bandeau agit sur la croissance de l’arbre, et elle en retour agit sur lui. Ce qui va se produire est imprévisible, et des années pourraient s’écouler avant que cela soit révélé. La branche pourrait se libérer de son entrave, être étranglée à mort par elle ou l’avaler, la mêlant ainsi à ses anneaux de croissance naturels. Quelqu’un, dans le futur, pourrait voir la preuve d’un âge d’or dans la coupe transversale d’un bout de bois ramassé au hasard.
Notice biographique
Jason de Haan (1981) is a multidisciplinary Canadian artist. He received an MFA (sculpture) from Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, in 2014. Recent solo exhibitions include the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax), Clint Roenisch Gallery (Toronto), Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, Southern Alberta Art Gallery (Lethbridge), and Museo de la Ciudad (Querétaro, Mexico). Recent group exhibitions include Scrap Metal (Toronto), Bond House Projects (London), Oakville Galleries, Scotiabank Nuit Blanche (Toronto), MOLAF (Bergen), Art Gallery of Alberta, and Galleri Kling & Bang (Reykjavik). He participated in the Arctic Circle 2012 residency and in multiple residencies at the Banff Centre. He is a founding member of the Corbin Union Residency in Corbin, BC, a ghost town in the East Kootenays. Upcoming exhibitions include the Art Gallery of Alberta and MASS MoCA. He has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, and in 2012 he was shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award, representing the Prairies and the North. His work has been reviewed in The Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Star, Canadian Art Magazine, Art in America, and Art Forum.
