Notice biographique
Barry Allikas was born in Montreal, where he continues to live and work. For more than 20 years his practice has embodied an exploration of hard-edge painting, expanding its original phenomenological and formalist preoccupations to include semiotics, evolutionary studies, chaos theory, and cultural criticism. He has exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally, and he is represented in many important public and private collections, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, the National Bank of Canada, Hydro-Québec, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, TD Canada Trust, and Majudia.
