Often working in series, either on paper or canvas, I attempt to transport the image into precarious places, by means of irrational and intuitive states from which dyslexic or contradictory compositions may suddenly emerge. This process involves constant decision-making, aimed at conserving that which deserves to survive in the image. There is no scope for non-essentials. Despite the abstractions, the results of my artistic approach are intimately linked with the organic and my profound appreciation of nature.
In a9, the lines, juxtaposed with various, subtly balanced planes and structures, guide the viewer towards other horizons. This interval generates unity between the objects but also a sense of malaise, as this fragile state could disintegrate at any moment.
Biographical note
Jean-François Lauda a pris part à plusieurs expositions collectives au Canada, aux États-Unis et en Europe. En 2011, il présentait sa première exposition solo, Fait de concentré, chez Simon Blais à Montréal. Il participait en 2012 au 30e Symposium international d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul et au printemps 2013, il participera à l’exposition intitulée An Appetite for Painting in Canada. Ses œuvres figurent dans plusieurs collections publiques et privées, y compris celles de Loto-Québec, de la Banque Nationale, de Heenan Blaikie et d’Hydro-Québec. En plus de sa pratique en arts visuels, Jean-François Lauda est également musicien et il a participé à plusieurs festivals, dont Mutek et POP de Montréal.
