l’attente is part of an exploration of the body and its representations. How should the body, the basis of relationships with the self and with others, be shown? How can it be evoked, embodied, figured, written? These plural questions inhabit this recent work and have always driven Jodoin’s practice.
Biographical note
Sophie Jodoin explores the manifestations of femininity, intimacy, loss, absence, and language in her practice. Her hybrid work mixes drawing, collage, writing, found objects, installations, and video. Her recent exhibitions include Toi que jamais je ne termine, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (2019) and Room(s) to move: je, tu, elle, an exhibition in three separate chapters presented, respectively, at Expression, Centre d’exposition de Saint-Hyacinthe, the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie, Ontario, and the Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides, in Saint-Jérôme (2017–18). Her works are in private and public collections, including the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Musée d’art de Joliette, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. She was the recipient of the Prix Louis-Comtois and the Prix Giverny Capital in 2017.
