Impression au jet d’encre, 2019
Early morning newspaper and flyers. The way in which I have been working in the last year or two involves taking a lot of photos over a period of time. This practice results in a great accumulation of pictures.
Usually these photos would be scanned and printed into their final form that would be present in a critique or on the walls of the gallery, or published in a book. Once the final goal has been attained, the final form gets added to the accumulated prints. These prints may never be used again. The end of life for the printed image marks somewhat a new beginning - or an afterlife - for the printed matter that have already served a purpose.
The images in Poor Memory were a part of a self publication, namely, In the Mirror of the Heart, and have served their purpose. In my practice I try to not let the image get affected by what I know about it. By putting my own memory aside I try to work with memory and visual cues stored in the image. By doing so I try to distance myself from the image and the device, working with photographs as a raw material to recreate new pictures.
