La photographie d’une table se détache de la réalité, de petites mèches brûlent le long de ses pattes ; des amas de graines l’entourent sur le plancher. Dans mon travail, je mets en scène des récits poétiques queers qui dialoguent entre les intimités, les tensions, les érotismes et les désirs du corps moderne. Wicks fait partie d’une série de photographies dans laquelle j’examine des thèmes entourant la tristesse, l’envie et le surréalisme. Durant cette période, je me suis intéressé à la transformation de l’espace à travers la perspective de la perte. Dans les photographies, les matériaux ne semblent pas adhérer à la réalité mais à un état doucement instable.
B. Brookbank is an artist from Nova Scotia, currently working in Montréal. They consider the language and poetics of photography through an interdisciplinary approach that includes moving image, installation, sculpture, and writing. Recent solo exhibitions include the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery and Centre CLARK (Montréal), L’Écart (Rouyn-Noranda), and the Anna (Halifax). Select group exhibitions include Patel Brown (Montréal and Toronto), Centre CLARK (Montréal), and Eyelevel Gallery (Halifax). Brookbank’s practice has been supported through grants and awards such as Concordia Faculty of Fine Arts Fellowship, the Roloff Beny Foundation Photographic Award, and the Canada Council for the Arts. They hold an MFA in photography from Concordia University and a BFA in photography from NSCAD University.
