Notice biographique

Brian Rideout is a Toronto-based painter best known for his distinctive and contemplative luxe interiors. Referencing both modernist interior design and twentieth-century collecting patterns, Rideout’s work is playful and “meta” as he confronts two aspects of painting’s identity; documentation and decoration.

Rideout studied at Georgian College in Barrie and previously served as head of the painting department in Kent Monkman’s studio. In 2017, he received the Ontario Arts Council Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Arts (Emerging). Rideout’s work can be found in numerous private collections and in the collections of TD Bank, RBC, National Bank of Canada, and Estée Lauder.
