The photographic work Sans titre (rue Boudreau), created in 2011, is born of the À contretemps corpus in which the artist reflects upon peri-urban space by exploring questions related to temporality and the media of photography and video. More precisely, this work reveals a schematized architectural structure which seeks to dissolve the visible present of its location by transporting us back to its point of origin: the sketch, the working architectural drawing, which vibrantly evokes a certain modernist utopia.
Biographical note
Sylvie Readman has taught at UQAM since 1999. She studied Visual Arts at Université Laval and Concordia University where she received a Master’s in Fine Arts. Her work has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada, France, and Belgium. À contretemps, was presented in April 2011 at Laroche/Joncas Gallery, Montreal. In recent years, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Femmes artistes du XXe siècle au Québec at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec in June 2010; Preoccupations: Photographic Explorations of the Grey Nuns Mother House, organized by curator Martha Langford at Concordia University’s FOFA Gallery in 2009; and Enfants de Cartier, photographie canadienne contemporaine, presented at the Théâtre de la Photographie et de l’Image in Nice in 2007. Her works are featured in numerous Canadian museum collections.
