Lahde, Kristiina

Using systems and patterns to transform familiar objects into sculptural forms, Kristiina Lahde often reworks materials that are headed towards obsolescence such as telephone books, newspapers, and envelopes. With precise geometry, Lahde transforms the text and images from newspapers into a play of distortions and reflections that replicate the intricate patterning effect of a kaleidoscope. In these collages we see repeated fragments of the Globe and Mail. At one time these pages carried information, but now are distorted to the point of abstraction
