The painting Peep Mobile (oiseaux pour bébé) signifies a box from which a child’s toy has been removed. From a frontal perspective, all that remains on view is the toy’s attachment device and the graphics printed on the box’s interior. Through its absence, the toy reveals the true object of the tableau: the substance of a pictorial presence rather than a simple representation of a box. This painting belongs to a body of work that broaches the notions of space and place in painting.
Biographical note
Nicolas Lachance vit et travaille à Montréal. Il est titulaire d’un baccalauréat de l’UQÀM (2009). Son travail aborde différentes modalités d’apparition et de disparition de la représentation en rapport avec l’image peinte. Depuis la dernière année, des questions relatives au temps photographique impliquant la trace et l’empreinte sont devenues une source de dialogue pour réfléchir les spécificités de la peinture. Au cours des dernières années, il a présenté son travail notamment au centre Clark et à la galerie Lilian Rodriguez, et cet automne, il présentera une exposition individuelle au centre Regard à Québec. Ses œuvres font partie de la collection Prêt d’œuvres d’art du MNBAQ, ainsi que de plusieurs collections privées au Canada.
