These two works broach the subject of depth, or rather its absence, as well as the mechanisms that thwart our comprehension. The bands of colour act as a grid that restrain us on the surface of the tableau, while the background brings into question the accuracy of our perceptions in regard to the colours and their terracing. These works pursue the work initiated with the Platebandes series, presented at René Blouin in 2011.
Biographical note
Daniel Langevin est né en 1974. Il vit et travaille à Montréal. En 1999, il a obtenu un baccalauréat en arts visuels à l’UQÀM. Son travail tente de réorganiser les systèmes visuels en épurant leur charge initiale, souvent anarchique et bruyante, afin d’en proposer une lecture personnelle et affinée. De l’intense saturation au chatoiement le plus subtil, la couleur, utilisée comme matériau à part entière, échafaude ses œuvres. La méthodologie stricte, unique à chacun de ses corpus, impose les limites et dicte la suite à ses compositions. Son travail a été présenté au centre Clark, à la galerie B-312 et à la Parisian Laundry, à Montréal, ainsi qu’au Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art à Toronto, lors de la RBC Painting Competition en 2006. Ses œuvres font partie de la collection Prêt d’œuvres d’art du MNBAQ, des collections RBC et BMO, ainsi que de nombreuses collections particulières au Canada et aux États-Unis.
