Biographical note
Using oil paint and watercolour, my artwork presents a restrained and detached view of surveillance culture, examining an endless defence from an unknown but constant threat. Unveiling appropriated images from mass media, newspapers and archives found largely on the Internet, I am interested in painting’s ability to offer commentary to an increasingly blind faith in the status quo, regardless of peril. The work shares an aesthetic of power and control, as well as a paradoxical inertia – an ambiguity towards catastrophe that is now commonplace and even expected.
