This series of watercolours has been growing since the summer of 2007. As a medium, watercolour seems to have brought out the images that haunt the artist’s texts: porous houses, dragonfly larvae, octopuses contaminating women’s bodies. All are symbols of metamorphosis. All refuse to inhabit well organized bodies, are caught in the process of hybridization, awaiting some transformation.
Biographical note
Caroline Boileau lives and works in Montreal. Her current practice, which combines performance, drawing, video, and installation, is a reflection on the body and on health. Motivated by an acute concern for the human context, her reflections are heavily inspired and imbued with the medical and pharmaceutical universe, in which, for several years, she has been as involved as in her artistic work. Since 1996, Boileau has participated in several residencies in Canada and in Europe and has exhibited in Canada, the United States, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Finland, and Brazil. Her work was recently presented at Pierre-François Ouellette art contemporain, in the exhibition Frontières fluides. Works of hers are part of the Loto-Québec collection, the Collection Prêt d’œuvres d’art of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and private collections in Canada, the United States, and in Europe. In 2011, she will be taking part in the Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf (Danielle Lord, curator), and in 2012, in a group show at Galerie de l’UQAM (Thérèse St-Gelais, curator). She holds an MFA from Concordia University and is a member of the group Women With Kitchen Appliances.
