Outta shape is part of a body of work that, some formal questions aside, is the fruit of long, ritualized walks through the city. La Rue freely comtemplated all sorts of phenomena, particularly architecture and the visual ambiguity of the buildings’ structures: angles, shadow, light and material. What his gaze imprinted on his memory became what accompanied him into the studio and what became—through the ritual of the work—a renewable source of such experiences.
