Valérie Kolakis explores architectonics in relation to issues of appropriation, identity, and site-specificity. More precisely, this is a conceptual investigation of how identity is constructed and subsequently constrained by society and its physical spaces. This work looks at issues of migration, displacement, and change. In a sense, this is a rebuilding of an “object” that contradicts its own function. The decontextualization of these materials suggests an emptiness — an indeterminate quality triggering a sense of displacement and transience.
