Motes 2.4 is from a series of works created at Montreal and Mazinaw Lake during the summer of 2008. Dilute droplets of colour are placed at loose intervals across a page in descending rows from top to bottom, left to right. Measure by measure, layer after layer, a network appears.
Biographical note
Chris Kline lives and works in Montreal. His paintings echo local traditions of abstraction while reflecting on the medium’s contemporary conditions. Celebrated for their austerity and formal grace, Kline’s works are found in collections such as the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Musée d’art de Joliette, and Oakville Galleries, as well as in private and corporate collections in Canada, Europe, and the United States. The Agnes Etherington Art Centre recently presented new paintings in Weave, a two-person exhibition with Yam Lau co-curated by Stephen Horne and Sunny Kerr.
