Reclining Female Nude plays with tropes of classical and orientalist display, drawing parallels between the ornate clothing and the feminized, naked body. The medium of oil painting itself references the use of visual art during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in disseminating and reinforcing hegemonic views of Asian subjects.
