This work translates these aggregates of matter into paint (not without gaps and errors) as an impossible geography. To explore the thresholds of colour perception, Jérôme Bouchard has used micro-decoupage by strata, combined with traditional painting on wood panel. The title 2115c15p refers to the number of contours used (c) and the number of layers superimposed (p).
Biographical note
Jérôme Bouchard lives in Brussels. The starting point for his work is objects (geological, biological, geographic) that challenge scientific representation and examine damaged landscapes. He associates different traditional painting processes with digital editing tools. Exploring gaps and errors, Bouchard performs subtractions of material that stretch the limits of machine and human hand: micro-decoupage, scrapings, and micro-perforations. The traces that result from these operations (smoke, burns, dust, blade cuts) represent both the unthought-of in his own process and the blind spots in a world negotiated between humans and non-humans.
