Screen #2 is part of a series of screen-printed-paper screens in which the juxtaposition of lined motifs creates a moiré effect, a reference to the effects caused by the tracking function of VHS players. The series Screens explores the nature of electronic interfaces as bodies integrating our behavioural codes, our modes of expression, and our values in technological infrastructures that build our perception of the environment.
Biographical note
Dominique Pétrin is a visual art who lives in Montréal and the Laurentians. Over more than twenty years, she has developed a serigraphy practice with a multidisciplinary approach, using prints as an element in dance and music and in the form of immersive installations made of screen-printed paper, cut out and glued to the surfaces of walls and floors. She was a member of the petrochemical rock band Les Georges Leningrad (2000–07) and has collaborated with Sophie Calle, Le Pil, and Galia Kollectiv, choreographers Antonija Livingstone, Stephen Thompson, and Andrew Tay and the artist Banksy for Hotel Walled Off in Palestine (2017). She was selected for the Prix Louis-Comtois in 2017 and was a finalist for the Sobey Award in 2014. She has made more than twenty works of public art, including for Meow Wolf Santa Fe and in the Place-des-Arts metro station. Her work has been presented across Canada, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
