Air de printemps

Huile sur toile, 2025

I use colour as an emotional response to what I see and feel. Air de printemps is a work situated between the clouds and the earthy ground—an evocation of waking up to a spring day, in which there’s a hopeful hint of colour and a soft breeze brushing the skin. A view from the sky, grounded in feeling.

Biographical note

Béatrice Côté lives and works in Montréal/Tiohtiá:ke, Canada. She is attuned to the ephemeral qualities of the urban environment—fleeting moments that evoke a sense of temperature: wind, humidity, rain, and shifting light. Working with thin layers of paint, she gradually constructs and deconstructs the surface to open up the image and create depth. She embraces blurred lines and marks, cultivating ambiguity and movement within her compositions.

Côté holds a BFA from Concordia University. Recent exhibitions include Narrow Gardens at Psychic Readings Gallery, New York; Also a good place to sulk at Zalucky Contemporary, Toronto; and Clay court at Espace Loulou, Montréal. She has participated in artist residencies at Inshuti Art Gallery in Kigali, Rwanda; the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity; and NARS in New York.
