Acrylique, fil Dyneema, support de plexiglass, 2024

35 × 36 cm
Estimate
$2 950

The drawing is made with acrylic medium by means of a syringe and blunt-tipped needle, the liquid medium incorporated while wet into an upper support thread that has been curved in anticipation of the artwork’s weight when suspended. It hovers between two plexiglass rods in front of the wall, where its visibility might be confounded by the shadow it casts. It is from a series of “stream drawings,” named for the liquid and meditative process by which they are made.

Biographical note

Karilee Fuglem makes subtly visible drawings and installations in collaboration with ambient light and air movement—artworks that gently signal the viewer toward unseen phenomena always at the edge of consciousness. Usually site-specific, her interventions have been presented in solo exhibitions at galleries such as Expression, Centre d’exposition de Saint-Hyacinthe, Fonderie Darling (Montréal), and Oakville Galleries, and in group exhibitions such as the Biennale de Montréal and La Manif d’Art (Québec City), as well as the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), which hold her work in their collections. She has developed public works for the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal and Bibliothèque L’Octogone (Lasalle). In 2010, she was finalist for the Prix Louis-Comtois.
