Text mess age is a neon sign that describes itself: it relays a text message. But it also describes today’s complex, riddled, and immersive use of text in advertising, social media, and other means of communication. The piece was commissioned for the exhibition Do I still cross your mind? curated by Tatiana Mellema at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery.
Biographical note
Mark Clintberg is an artist who works in the field of art history; he explores the materiality of text and the public display of subjective feeling. Collections featuring his work include the National Gallery of Canada, the Edmonton Arts Council, and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. His work has recently been shown at The Rooms (St. John’s), Doris McCarthy Gallery (Toronto), Illingworth Kerr Gallery (Calgary), Dunlop Art Gallery (Regina), Western Front (Vancouver), and the Fogo Island Inn. He has upcoming solo projects at Artspace (Toronto), and Truck Gallery (Calgary). In 2013, he was shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award.
