A length of fabric is attached to a simple wooden frame. Stretched taut and suspended from the wall as a painting, this screen permits a partial view of its supports. Extending horizontally across its lower edge, enclosed within the limits of its framework, a single painted rectangle crosses the plane. Climate, duration, or material, it is the only impediment offered here.
Biographical note
Chris Kline’s works “present us with the difficult pursuit of slowness, vagueness, and richness that accompany experiences of transition, the space of the horizon being a site of such transitioning” (Stephen Horne, 2008). Recently featured in The Question of Abstraction at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and The Painting Project at Galerie de l’UQAM, his paintings are in several private and public collections, including Oakville Galleries, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
