Two Vases is the precursor painting study to the recent Brushstroke series that I began in summer 2018. This work is significant because of its shift in gears, its energy and looseness. It’s a picture of the celebration of the dance of making.
Biographical note
Les Ramsay was born in Vancouver and currently lives and works on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. He received his BFA at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, did a six-month exchange at Universitat de Politecnica in Valencia (Spain), and completed his MFA in painting at Concordia University. Ramsay creates his works by recycling the excess of everyday domestic objects using constructive and deconstructive strategies. With a layered multi-media studio practice, he draws inspiration from domestic craft, textiles, folk art, and digital drawing, forming groups of large oil paintings, fabric assemblages, sculptures, and framed needlepoints.
His works can be found in many private and corporate collections, including Medcan, the Claridge Collection, TD Bank Group, Royal Bank of Canada, and Scotiabank. He has exhibited in Canada, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and the United States.
