Groups of stains and coloured shapes cohabit with constantly reformulated reflections on the themes of authenticity and roots. The real work is in choosing what deserves to survive in a visually abstract world where there is no room for superficial references or conscious styles. In the painting, one finds an original source of suspended lines and forms. A strange destiny. This construction could have been created using both immobile and moving objects. An installation of crab legs, garlands, avocado skins, and puddles of water blown by the wind.
Biographical note
Jean-François Lauda sends these paintings outside to play, takes them fishing, forgets them beside campfires, and uses them to swat flies. What a pleasure it is to be in the silence of the great outdoors! Born in 1981, Lauda is a self-taught artist. His works feature in numerous collections, including those of Loto-Québec, Senvest, and Colart. He was recently awarded a grant by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
