Acrylique sur papier Arches 250g, 2017
Catherine McInnis' vulvar portraits are painted from real images found on the internet. For hours, she searched the web’s dark corners to find her subjects. She went through the same process as those who look for them for fun.
I am told that Catherine's work sometimes makes people uncomfortable. Beautiful enough to masturbate at night, too vile to be portrayed. Just like meat at the grocery store, you don't want to know where they come from.
Showing their uniqueness only slows the fast consumption cycle. This paradox sometimes makes me uncomfortable. True enough to be pointed out, too indecent to be an artwork description.
