In recent years, Sara A.Tremblay’s practice has broadened from photography toward sculptural and performative forms, in which the construction of the image becomes the central gesture. Her recent projects reflect her desire to explore the steps through which the image appears, envisage their layers, and experience their materiality. In her pictorial approach, she creates painted elements that act as living backgrounds, becoming extra-photographic autonomous works. She thus investigates the precise space where the work emerges, between appearance and erasure, between the time experienced and the moment captured, and she probes what persists, what disappears, what is transformed.
Artiste de l’image, Sara A.Tremblay travaille aux croisements de la performance, de la photographie et de la sculpture. Elle documente les transformations intimes et environnementales qui l’entourent, en recueillant des objets et en choisissant des gestes et des interventions liés au quotidien, aux phénomènes naturels et à la matière. Elle élabore une vaste collection, empreinte de poésie et ancrée dans son expérience personnelle. Cette proximité entre vie et art donne lieu à une approche performative, cumulative et maximaliste, où le vécu – documenté notamment par la photographie – devient lui-même matière artistique. Ses œuvres traduisent le récit du travail de création, de la vie en arrière-plan, du visible et de l’invisible, traçant et retraçant leurs enchevêtrements prismatiques.
Lauréate du Prix en art actuel du Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec en 2023, elle a participé à de nombreuses expositions et résidences artistiques au Québec, au Canada et à l’international, notamment en Suède et en Tunisie.
