Eight people interlaced, bodies woven into precarious support systems. These are not fixed but in constant flux, shaped by the flow of human presence, touch, affections, tensions, ruptures, collapse, will, and strength. Details of Assemblies presents close-up analogue photographs taken during the durational performance Assemblies, presented during Nuit Blanche Toronto in 2023. Over twelve hours, performers entered and exited a parking lot filled with gravel, slowly filling it with soil: twelve hours of collective and individual labour punctuated by moments of song, of dance, of spoken and body poetry.

Biographical note

Combining lens-based media, installation, and performance, Eve Tagny adopts a poetic approach to consider landscapes and gardens as sites shaped by cycles of rejuvenation tangled with the legacies of colonial expansion, capital accumulation, private ownership, and human activity.

Tagny has a BFA in film production from Concordia University and a certificate in journalism from Université de Montréal. Selected exhibitions include Westfälischer Kunstverein and Biennale für Freiburg (Germany), Somerset House (London), Henry Art (Seattle), PHOTO Australia and Ames Yavuz (Australia), Murate Art District and Gucci Gardens (Italy), Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (Québec), Musée d’art de Joliette, MOMENTA Biennale, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Centre CLARK (Montréal), VAC, Cooper Cole, Gallery 44, and Franz Kaka (Toronto). She has been longlisted for the Sobey Award (2024), shortlisted for the Prix en art actuel du MNBAQ (2023) and Gala Dynastie (2023, 2025), and is a recipient of GOG Awards (2023).
