Rainbow Valley

Vine charcoal and graphite on mylar, 2017

30.48 x 30.48 cm

Fusing portions of images taken from tourism catalogs and family photos, this drawing is part of a series that examines touristic sites that no longer exist. Rainbow Valley thus refers to a once-popular family theme park on Prince Edward Island.

Biographical note
My work interrogates the orientalist gaze of Western culture and explores intertwined ideas about representation and memory. Based on found images in digital media and on family photos, my works result from an intention to critically observe the fetishism of aesthetic motifs as encouraged by cultural consumption.
