This image from the Chronoscopies series results from a process that uses the matrix structure of the digital image for the visualization of spatio-temporal phenomena. Created at the tramway station de Gaulle in Orléans (France) on April 30, 2010 from 16:45:53 to 18:51:07, it was generated pixel-by-pixel, from left to right and from top to bottom. By presenting micro samples of successive moments, the stratification of the image reveals the unfolding of a world in constant flux and touches on the subjective notions of signal and noise.
Biographical note
François Quévillon lives and works in Montreal, where he earned a Master’s in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM. Marked by the ­concepts of instability and indetermination, his work is at the junction between installation and digital art. He explores complex phenomena and perception through the implementation of processes sensitive to the interference of the public and variable environmental ­factors. A member of the Interstices research and creation group from 2001 to 2008, Quévillon joined Perte de Signal in 2009, and has been the recipient of several awards and grants (including RCA/C.D. Howe, CIAM, FQRSC, CALQ, and CC). His creations have been presented within the framework of solo and group exhibitions inCanada and at several international festivals and events, notably in France, Lebanon, and Brazil.
