Le marais belongs to a series of pictorial, performative, and textual works that explore archaeological excavations and the figure of the archaeologist as analogies for artistic practice. From a mass of erratic marks, a floating head emerges through successive layers of undulating lines. Unsettled, the face disintegrates into what appears to be an underground space. The work bears the official seal of the artist with the inscription “The Early Years.”
Biographical note
Guillaume Adjutor Provost vit et travaille à Montréal. Ses projets exercent un brouillage du quotidien qui, dans une approche interdisciplinaire, préconise un état d’hybridité entre arts visuels, design industriel et procédé curatorial. Ces constructions se rassemblent au croisement du récit parcellisé et de l’objet témoin. Recourant à l’intégration des multiples composantes de sa production : installation, performance, dessin, l’artiste désire réexaminer librement le concept de Gesamtkunstwerk, dispositif résolument inclusif où le contenu se manifeste en regard du contexte. Candidat au doctorat à l’UQÀM, Adjutor a présenté son travail lors d’expositions solos et collectives au Québec, en Ontario, aux États-Unis, en Belgique et en Allemagne. Il est boursier de Première Ovation, du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec et de la SODEC. À l’automne 2012, grâce à l’appui de la Fonderie Darling, il a pu poursuivre son travail à Paris dans le cadre des résidences croisées France-Québec.
