Canadian Art, the nation’s art magazine, comes to us with the contemporary art du jour on the cover and the requisite advertisement for something fancy on the back cover—usually a luxury car. The collages in this series begin with the cutting this latter element out of the picture, and, following the same contours, cutting right through the entire publication. This generates the raw material for the collage that follows.
Biographical note
Maclean moved to Montreal, where he currently lives and works, from Winnipeg seventeen years ago. His work has been exhibited across Canada and in France, and is now included in numerous private and public collections, including the Musée national des beaux-arts de Québec, the National Bank, the Glenbow Museum (Calgary), and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt.
