In her practice, which encompasses painting, drawing, and printmaking, Bea Parsons depicts allegorical figures who replay patterns of death and rebirth in the underworld that they inhabit. Alluding to the multiple histories of her Indigenous and settler background, she conveys both verbal and visual forms of storytelling through symbolic imagery, often centring on grotesque representations of femininity. The monotype print See Through Dress characterizes eroticism through a transformational, metaphysical state. The gaze is replaced by the artist’s stare, boring through to the inner personal reaches of the imagination.
