Ce qu’il en reste [Left Behind] (2022) is a work taken from one of Lynne Lapointe’s most recent pictorial series, produced in reaction to the atrocities taking place in Ukraine, through which she wanted to reflect both on the hope that exiled women and children need and on the harrowing pain of leaving everything behind. In this work, Lapointe wants to anticipate a metaphoric state of memory and healing.
Biographical note
Lyne Lapointe was born in Montréal and lives in Mansonville, Québec. From 1983 to 1994, she created a series of in situ works in collaboration with artist and critic Martha Fleming, transforming abandoned spaces into ephemeral sites of personal memories. In 1994, she produced a large-scale installation at the 22nd Biennale de São Paulo, in Brazil. Since then, she has concentrated on producing a more intimate body of work using mixed techniques.
Lapointe’s works have been exhibited at P.S. 1 Institute for Art and Urban Resources, Long Island City; the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Museo de zoologia, São Paulo; Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (and touring Canada and France); Carleton University Art Gallery, Ottawa; SBC Galerie d’art contemporain, Montréal; Jack Shainman Gallery, New York; and The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery, St. John’s. Her works are in permanent collections, including the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the National Gallery of Canada, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Gallery of Guelph, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Rennie Museum in Vancouver.
