Célébration IV

Fonte d’aluminium et peinture, 2018

10.16 x 7.62 x 7.62 cm
The grating tone, sometimes humorous and often imbued with tenderness, of Pierre&Marie's works is showcased in this sculpture, plunging us into an atmosphere that is simultaneously contemplative, unsettling, festive, and tragic. The unique vocabulary specific to the duo is manifested through the use of candles, a recurring element in their work, which has become a symbol of ephemeral magic, a celebration of life and its inevitable finitude. The artwork is intended as a poetic response, a form of gentle resistance to the prevailing anxiety of our time, characterized by an exhausted nature.
Biographical note
Pierre&Marie's practice echoes, with both tenderness and seriousness, the foundations of our modern society. Infused with objects linked to popular culture, it appeals to both collective memory and a personal vocabulary, developed around tragi-comic staging that unfolds through photography and sculpture. Deliberately offbeat, our works give the impression of an "almost perfect" foundation for reflection on fleeting, sincere, and disillusioned joys. Our work thus opens up a space for poetic reflection that refers to both the intimate and the universal.
