Collectible, currently on display, is a representation on canvas of a particular painted Pokémon card, but transposed into a slightly different universe.
With a personal aesthetic, yet adhering to the original composition of the card, I wanted to transform a mundane collectible object into a collectible work of art. This brings forth a notion of consumption and subtly touches upon the subject of capitalism, without expressing any specific opinion. It reflects a certain culture through the simple reflection of a canvas covered in epoxy.
Biographical note
My work is to represent, in a subtle and non-opinionated manner, capitalist consumerism. Falling perfectly within the definition of pop art, a part of my art involves capturing a simple reflection through the use of epoxy, as when one looks through it, they can see themselves. The audience thus becomes an integral part of the artwork, just as they are an integral part of the concept being illustrated.
