Chi_Reflective Window
Oil pastel, colour pencil, charcoal on paper, 2020
13.97 x 13.97 cm
Chi_Reflective Window gives homage to the Alfred Hitchcock film Rear Window and how our surroundings influence us. This close study of Chicago's apartment building windows display order and symmetry while each unit is abstracted as it reflects its neighbouring towers. The ordinary window is a boundary between inside and outside, and the public and private space. I am interested in the intimate relationship between the window, the act of seeing, and the perception of gaze, that has become a part of our everyday language.
Biographical note
I am a flaneur, a female idler and drifting observer of the city. My practice begins by intuitively walking to better understand how city and places are constructed. I document my walks using a sketchbook and phone to record urban elements that provoke new visual realities.
