Biographical note
Sarah Penina is a painter based in Montreal, Canada. She makes artwork that is colourful yet sensitive. She is inspired by 1980s-1990s children's toys and media, the aesthetics of which have influenced her use of colour and iconography. The artwork is informed by the experience of growing up as a severely anxious child with ADHD, which led to her using artwork as an outlet for escapism, but also as a way to communicate her internal world to others. As a result, loneliness and joyfulness both pervade the work.
