In this artwork, a beaded grid serves as a wire mesh that reinforces concrete foundations, simultaneously containing and supporting daubs of aluminum fleck. By contemplating the ambivalent value of beads in relation to fashion, jewelry, and aesthetic preferences such as grit-glam and stealth-wealth, the selection of materials in this piece intentionally blurs the boundaries between tastefulness and tackiness, expense and affordability, heaviness and delicacy. The goal is to provoke reflection on how these qualifiers influence our evaluation of art pieces.
