Biographical note

Emerging Quebec painter Gabriel Rioux challenges our perception of time, space and the constraints of inner knowledge. His harmonious yet visually tense paintings offer us a meticulously codified window into the artist's imagination and subconscious. Rioux's intuitive works, full of symbolism, present an almost canonical composition of spaces delineated by a sharp line and a subtle change of shadow.

Through the representation of windows and bookcases, the artist emphasizes the infinite possibilities within a limited psycho-geographic space: a room, a night sky, a world of possibilities. Libraries, which often resurface in his paintings, are symbols that indicate the diversity of knowledge and the broad spectrum of personal expression. The windows - in the same vein - look out onto a dimension that intriguingly extends beyond the viewer's gaze, offering us the possibility of constructing unlimited possibilities in our minds.
